Forza Horizon 6 - Xbox Series X Vs PC Graphics Comparison
Forza Horizon is back and this time they’re bringing the chaos of the Horizon festival to Japan. Horizon 6 introduces a ton of new cars as well as very dense map. In this video were going to be taking a look at the game playing on both an Xbox Series X in Quality and Performance mode, as well as it running on a PC with the highest settings possible via an RTX 4090. The game looks and runs excellent on all platforms in all modes, but if you’re on PC the gap in quality is definitely noticeable. The Xbox is no slouch, in Quality mode you’ll get a native 4k resolution at 30fps with better looking textures and Ray Tracing, while performance mode offers a faster looking game running at a locked 60fps with a target of 4K thanks to a dynamic resolution at the cost of higher resolution textures. However you play this game, tuning a Ferrari into a boat and driving a Honda CRX at 100+ MPH has never looked better.
Gameplay captured on a PC via an RTX 4090 with the settings cranked all the way up, and an Xbox Series X in both Quality and Performance modes.

When it comes to racing sims, visual fidelity is as crucial as performance. Forza Horizon 6, one of the premier arcade-style racers, continues that tradition by delivering a lush, expansive open world with a stable frame rate and high-detail environments. This piece examines how the game stacks up on two popular platforms: the Xbox Series X and a PC configuration capable of high-end graphics. The goal is to provide a clear, technically grounded comparison that helps players set expectations and optimize their setup.
1) Core rendering pipeline and engine behavior Forza Horizon 6 runs on a modern iteration of the studio’s in-house engine, optimized for wide-scale open worlds, dynamic weather, and a broad variety of asset types. On both Xbox Series X and PC, the game emphasizes consistent draw distances, sophisticated lighting models, and material detail that scales with hardware capabilities. The Series X benefits from a tightly integrated hardware-software stack, including a fixed, well-optimized graphics API path and a console-specific shader cache. PC setups, by contrast, expose a broader spectrum of performance envelopes, including CPU affinity, memory bandwidth, and GPU driver optimization, which can influence how, and when, assets are loaded and rendered during the race.
2) Visual fidelity: textures, lighting, and weather - Textures and asset detail: On Series X, the asset streaming system is tuned to maintain high texture quality and long-distance geometry while preserving a rock-solid frame rate. PC configurations with high VRAM (8GB+) and fast GPUs can push higher texture resolutions and more granular MIP selection, with some titles offering an explicit texture scale slider. In practice, both platforms present highly detailed environments, but PC builds with ample VRAM may display crisper distant terrain and crowding of fine surface details, especially at higher texture settings. - Lighting: Forza Horizon 6 employs dynamic lighting that includes daytime cycles, night scenes, and weather-driven variation. Series X delivers accurate ambient occlusion, accurate reflections, and volumetric lighting that remains stable across a broad set of scenarios. PC systems can enhance global illumination and reflection fidelity when enabled, subject to the GPU and driver support. Users may notice richer reflections on water and glass, more nuanced shadow regions, and more precise light scattering on high-end PCs. - Weather and time-of-day: The game’s weather system features rain, fog, dust, and changing skies. On Series X, weather effects stay cohesive with consistent frame pacing, ensuring visual fidelity without noticeable stutter. A capable PC with strength in ray tracing, if supported by the game’s options, can offer more elaborate volumetrics and weather-induced lighting variety, though the impact is often incremental rather than transformative for most players.
3) Rendering performance and frame rate targets - Series X: The console targets a stable frame rate with a balance between performance and image quality. The fixed hardware profile allows the engine to optimize for smoothness, typically prioritizing a steady 60 frames per second in most racing scenarios, with occasional dips during extreme weather or densely populated scenes. The output resolution is commonly tuned to deliver sharp visuals at this target, complemented by motion handling that preserves responsive steering and immersion. - PC: The PC experience is highly variable and depends on the user’s hardware. A mid- to high-end PC with a modern GPU and CPU can surpass the Series X in raw pixel count and frame rate, potentially achieving 120 Hz at 4K with appropriate settings, or delivering ultra-wide resolutions with solid frame stability. However, pushing to the extreme end may require lowering some settings (shadow quality, texture resolution, post-processing) to maintain a consistent frame rate during complex moments, such as large-scale events or weather-dense environments.
4) Visual comparisons and practical takeaways - Image clarity: High-quality PC builds with robust GPUs and large VRAM generally offer crisper textures and more aggressive level-of-detail transitions at distance, translating to closer parity with the Series X’s presentation at similar target frame rates, and in some cases, a cleaner distant horizon. - Sharpening and post-processing: Both platforms employ post-processing to enhance perceived sharpness. PC users gain extra flexibility to tune anti-aliasing and sharpening to taste, which can noticeably change the perceived edge clarity without altering geometry. - Fluidity and responsiveness: Frame rate stability drives the feel of the race. Series X provides dependable performance, which contributes to predictability in handling and timing. A well-tuned PC can either match or exceed this, depending on the configuration, but it may require additional adjustments to achieve a comparable balance.
5) Practical guidance for players - If you own a Series X and want the best consistent experience, enable the highest quality preset offered by the game while ensuring V-Sync or a similar frame-rate cap is active to avoid tearing. Expect a visually rich presentation with reliable performance that remains faithful to the intended art direction. - On PC, start with a high-resolution texture pack, enable a balanced level of ambient occlusion and shadows, and then fine-tune anti-aliasing and post-processing to taste. If you’re chasing higher frame rates, consider reducing shadow distance or texture quality cautiously to preserve the overall scene density. - Consider the monitor or display you use. A high-refresh-rate panel can unlock smoother steering feel, while a high-resolution monitor enhances the sense of immersion. If you have variable refresh rate capability (G-Sync/FreeSync), enable it to minimize frame-time fluctuations.
6) Final assessment Forza Horizon 6 maintains a strong visual identity across both Xbox Series X and PC platforms. The Series X offers a reliable, console-optimized experience with consistent frame rates and high visual quality, while PC configurations provide the potential for higher fidelity through more aggressive texture, lighting, and optional ray-traced effects, at the cost of greater tuning for stability. Both paths deliver the game’s signature sense of speed and spectacle, ensuring that players on either platform can enjoy the same core thrill: racing through a vibrant, responsive open world filled with detail at every turn.
