Star Wars: Galactic Racer Review
Star Wars: Galactic Racer reviewed by Luke Reilly on Xbox Series X. Also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and PC.
"Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a fabulous looking and frantically fast anti-grav racer that impressively goes further than just taking the decades-old Star Wars Racer games and giving them a 4K facelift. With a range of satisfyingly customisable vehicle classes beyond podracers, a world outside the racing you can soak in and explore in third-person, and an interesting roguelite-adjacent structure that injects a considerable degree of risk into the action, Galactic Racer is a fresh and accomplished blend of Lucas lore with the destructive spirit of arcade racing icons like Burnout and MotorStorm. Its run-based campaign can grow unavoidably tedious over long stints because of its heavy reliance on repeatedly revisiting the same slim selection of planets, and its lack of splitscreen is disappointing considering its roots run back to consoles regarded as the kings of same-couch chaos. But Galactic Racer is an otherwise confident debut from developer Fuse Games, and one that has successfully lit the afterburners on a long-dormant slice of the Star Wars universe."
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Review

In the crowded arena of Star Wars games, Galactic Racer carves out a distinctive lane by blending high-speed racing with the franchise’s familiar spacefaring lore. This review examines how the experience stacks up against expectations, what it gets right, and where it leaves room for improvement.
Gameplay and pacing Galactic Racer delivers a fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled racing experience set against the backdrop of iconic star systems. The core loop—drafting behind rivals, mastering boosts, and navigating challenging tracks—feels finely tuned for both casual play and competitive sessions. The controls strike a balance between accessibility and precision: beginners can accelerate quickly into the action, while veterans will appreciate the depth offered by drift mechanics, short bursts of nitro, and track geometry that rewards memorization. The pacing maintains momentum across circuits, preventing lulls while encouraging strategic risk-taking on later laps.
Aesthetic and world-building The game gleams with a polished, cinematic sheen that aligns with Star Wars’ visual language. Track design draws inspiration from beloved locales—hyperspace lanes, asteroid fields, and orbital spacesports—while injecting fresh twists that keep each race feeling distinct. Vehicle models are lovingly detailed, with a satisfying sense of heft and acceleration that mirrors the franchise’s tech-forward aesthetic. Sound design reinforces immersion: engine roars, whirs of drones, and the crackle of blaster-fire pepper the soundscape without overwhelming the music, which appropriately ramps up during heated moments.
Content and progression Galactic Racer offers a robust career ladder complemented by time-limited events and a selection of multiplayer modes. Players unlock customization options, pilot silhouettes, and performance upgrades as they progress, which provides a tangible sense of advancement. The progression system encourages continued play without resorting to aggressive grind, provided players engage with the variety of tracks and modes. However, some players may crave more meaningful choices in customization that tangibly affect handling and speed, beyond cosmetic flair.
Multiplayer and community Online play shines with low-latency matchmaking and a well-implemented ranking system. Competitive modes feel fair, with balanced matchmaking that pairs teams and solo racers of comparable skill. The community features—spectator modes, ghost replays, and clippable moments—enhance the social aspect and make it easy to share highlights with friends. Local split-screen play remains a welcome nod to classic racing experiences and provides a satisfying alternative for couch sessions. Longevity will hinge on ongoing events, seasonal content, and the introduction of fresh tracks to keep the roster feeling new.
Performance and technical notes On modern hardware, Galactic Racer runs smoothly with stable frame rates and crisp visuals. Load times are reasonable, and the user interface is clean, with intuitive menus and quick access to race settings. Some platforms may experience minor texture pop or pop-in during high-speed sequences, but these are typically non-disruptive. Compatibility with multiple input devices, including wheels and gamepads, broadens accessibility for enthusiasts who crave a more immersive steering experience.
Verdict Star Wars: Galactic Racer delivers a polished, high-velocity racing experience that sits well within the franchise’s expansive ecosystem. Its tight controls, immersive presentation, and robust multiplayer options offer enduring appeal for both casual players and dedicated racers. While there is room for deeper customization and more dynamic track innovation, the game already stands out as a strong, entertaining title that captures the thrill of starship racing without losing sight of Star Wars’ distinctive flavor.
