You are the Pulse Warrior. In a hastily converted craft, you must keep the space platform free of the alien presence. You must gather the energy pulses, and build them up into deadly weapons, so that you can destroy the aliens. An absorbing game, requiring subtle strategies and sudden reflexes, with just enough uncertainty that ensures continuing interest as no matter how hard you try, you can never be perfect.
In the twenty second century, all the Earth’s power needs are supplied from space, giant space platforms, orbit the Sun, relaying power down via satellites to collectors on Earth. The platforms have also become giant colonies, with the vacuum of space and the lack of gravity making them the workshops of the world. So when the Earth was threatened by attack from the Darak, hideous reptilian beings from Cirrus Major, the space platforms were an early target.
Being designed for peaceful purposes the platforms had no defences. So when they were threatened emergency measures needed to be taken. The platforms’ defences were created out of the power collectors themselves. Pulses of energy are collected from the Sun by generators, you need to shepherd them into the lens to create pulses powerful enough to destroy the aliens as they land. Your craft has no weapons of its own, it just has enough shielding to enable it to reflect the pulses.
