In the high-octane world of Marathon, the ability to surgically dismantle a well-coordinated squad in a single, decisive sequence is the mark of true game sense. A fast 1v3 wipe isn’t about luck; it’s about anticipation, position, and precision. Here’s a professional breakdown of how to execute a clean, rapid 1v3 removal of competition, while maintaining control of the map and your tempo.
1) Read the flow, set the tempo Marathon rewards tempo management. Before engaging, scan the lobby and team compositions. Identify the likely routes your opponents will use, their typical rotations, and which player tends to lead pushes. Establish your own tempo: when to strike, when to pull back, and how to funnel enemies into unfavorable engagements. The goal is to force a three-way convergence that you can break apart on your terms.
2) Choose your engagement angle A 1v3 wipe succeeds when you avoid getting boxed in by the environment. Prioritize flanking angles, elevated positions, or chokepoints where you can isolate each opponent one at a time. If possible, draw one adversary into a prepared trap or defensive setup (such as window lines of sight or doorway choke points) that buys you the time needed to eliminate targets sequentially rather than all at once.
3) Information is armor Information advantages compound your odds: weapon types, armor levels, and radar readings all shape your approach. If you can confirm enemy loadouts or anticipate their rotations, you can preemptively counter with the right utility and positioning. Communicate quickly with your team (even if they’re not directly present) and map out a plan that leverages your confirmed intel.
4) Entry, threat isolation, and target prioritization Begin with a controlled entry that forces one enemy to engage alone. Use crossfire opportunities to prevent a single player from trading efficiently. Prioritize targets based on threat level and ease of elimination—typically starting with the most dangerous or the one exposing the other two to a disadvantageous retake. Your aim is not to “get all three” in one moment, but to parse the engagement into favorable 1v1s.
5) Positioning and space control Move through space that limits the others’ options. Cut off escape routes, deny high-ground advantages to the remaining opponents, and maintain a positional edge. If you can pin one enemy behind cover while the other two are forced to reposition, you create the necessary separation to finish them off one by one.
6) Utility usage with precision Utility should be earned, not wasted. Smoke for line-of-sight denial, flash to blind a key player, or a well-timed grenade to flush targets from cover can be the difference between a 1v3 that ends in seconds and a prolonged skirmish that nets you nothing. Use your tools to segment the squad and unlock favorable fights.
7) The finish: clean execution The final phase is where mechanics meet discipline. Confirm each kill with deliberate aim and ensure you prevent a quick revival or a teammate rotation from undoing your work. You should finish with accurate readouts on cooldowns, ammunition, and your own health relative to any potential counter-engagements.
8) Post-engagement discipline After a successful 1v3, convert the moment into map control. Reassess your position, refill resources, and consider how the reset impacts your next objective. Marathon rewards momentum, but it punishes hesitation. The clean wipe should translate into a strategic advantage—whether that’s map presence, objective pressure, or a psychological edge over the remaining opponents.
Real-world practice facets - Drills: Run micro-scenarios where you’re outgunned but can leverage timing and angle advantages to isolate enemies. - Review: Rewatch your own gameplay to identify moments where better positioning or utility usage would have tightened the 1v3. - Adaptability: Each squad has a different rhythm. Prepare a few adaptable templates rather than a single rigid plan.
Closing thoughts A fast 1v3 squad wipe in Marathon is as much about mental fortitude and map sense as it is about aim. The best players cultivate a habit of reading the flow, exploiting spatial advantages, and executing with calm precision. Use these principles to sharpen your approach, harness momentum, and turn high-stakes engagements into decisive, repeatable outcomes.
