Laugh it up. #CapeFear
Cape Fear is now streaming on Apple TV https://apple.co/_CapeFear
A thrilling new series from executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson.
Created for television by Nick Antosca.
Inspired by the 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.
Hailing from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television, “Cape Fear” is based on both the novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s Universal Pictures feature (1962) of the same name, as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Scorsese. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, alongside Scorsese. Creator Nick Antosca showruns and produces alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey produce alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television. Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP, where he’s been based since 2017.

Laugh it up. #CapeFear
In moments when the world feels overwhelming, humor can be a steadfast compass, guiding us toward resilience and shared humanity. Laughing together is more than a moment of levity; it’s a deliberate act of defiance against fear and uncertainty. The phrase “Laugh it up. #CapeFear” invites us to lean into humor as a practical tool for navigating tense times, while also acknowledging the gravity that often accompanies real-world challenges.
Humor as a coping mechanism has deep roots in our collective psyche. It creates space for reflection without surrendering our agency. When we laugh, we momentarily release the tension that fear builds, opening doors to clearer thinking, creative problem-solving, and healthier social bonds. In professional settings, humor can humanize leadership, soften difficult conversations, and foster a culture of psychological safety where teams feel seen and supported.
Cape Fear, a region known for its rugged coastline and storied communities, offers a meaningful backdrop for this mindset. The coast teaches us about balance: the tides pull us toward the shore, yet the horizon remains beckoning and expansive. Similarly, in our personal and professional lives, we must acknowledge risk while remaining curious and optimistic about what lies ahead. A well-timed joke or lighthearted anecdote can bridge gaps, ease tension, and remind us that we are navigating these waves together.
The social dimension of laughter is powerful. Shared humor strengthens bonds, elevates morale, and creates a sense of belonging. It invites diverse voices into conversations that might otherwise feel isolating. When we curate moments of levity with intention, we also create room for honest dialogue about challenges, allowing communities and organizations to address them with clarity and kindness.
To harness the benefits of laughter without undermining seriousness, consider these practical approaches: – Lead with empathy: Recognize the emotions at play and tailor humor to uplift rather than belittle. – Read the room: Timing and tone matter. What works in one setting may miss in another. – Ground humor in shared experience: Jokes that reflect common challenges or aspirations tend to land more effectively. – Pair humor with action: Use levity as a bridge to constructive steps, not a distraction from accountability.
Ultimately, the invitation to “Laugh it up. #CapeFear” is an invitation to resilience through communal spirit. It’s about choosing to meet fear with courage, not avoidance; to meet uncertainty with creativity; to meet each other with warmth. By embracing humor as a deliberate practice, we cultivate environments where people show up as their whole selves—ready to tackle challenges, celebrate successes, and move forward together, one smile at a time.
