Wildwood - Official Trailer (2026) Carey Mulligan, Richard E. Grant, Mahershala Ali
How far would you go for those you love? Watch the new trailer for Wildwood, an upcoming animated film from LAIKA Studios (the makers of Coraline). Wildwood features the voice talents of Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Arthur Knight, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Rob Delaney, Jemaine Clement, Marc Evan Jackson, Len Cariou, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, with Angela Bassett and Mahershala Ali.
From the makers of Coraline, Wildwood is a sweeping, darkly magical adventure about Prue, a young girl who journeys into a hidden forest to rescue her younger brother. Along the way she encounters warring factions, extraordinary creatures, and a world unlike anything she's ever known.
Wildwood is directed and produced by Travis Knight (Masters of the Universe, Kubo and the Two Strings). It is written by Chris Butler.
Inspired by Colin Meloy’s acclaimed novel, Wildwood brings an expansive fantasy world to the screen through LAIKA’s singular approach to stop-motion filmmaking. Characters, environments and intricate details are physically crafted and animated by hand, frame by frame, creating a world that feels both fantastical and unmistakably tangible.
Wildwood opens in theaters nationwide on October 23, 2026.

In the shadows of a windswept landscape, Wildwood unfolds as a meticulously crafted thriller that balances mood, mystery, and character-driven propulsion. The official trailer for the 2026 release signals a film that leans into quiet unease, inviting audiences to linger on each frame as secrets accumulate like fog over a secluded village.
Carey Mulligan anchors the emotional center with a performance that blends composure and vulnerability. Her presence suggests a protagonist who navigates a terrain where appearances are deliberate veneers, and every decision carries consequence. Mulligan’s portrayal promises a compelling study in restraint, where what is left unsaid often speaks louder than dialogue.
Richard E. Grant brings the screen a measured gravitas, his seasoned tact and subtle humor providing counterpoints to the film’s darker undertones. Grant’s character acts as a reflective mirror, provoking questions about motive, memory, and the nature of truth in a setting that feels both intimate and isolating. The trailer hints at a figure who knows more than he lets on, inviting the audience to read between lines that may not be plainly spelled out until the final act.
Mahershala Ali’s involvement elevates expectations with an assured presence that promises texture and resonance. Ali’s performance is poised to thread through the narrative with a quiet intensity, offering a lens through which danger and empathy converge. The trailer’s snippets suggest a role that will challenge perceptions, weaving a thread of moral ambiguity that keeps viewers engaged across the film’s emotional arc.
Visually, Wildwood embraces a controlled aesthetic that prioritizes atmosphere over exposition. The cinematography communicates through light, shadow, and nuanced framing, creating an immersive experience where the environment itself becomes a character. The pastoral exterior—woods, fields, and weather—likely serves as a counterpoint to the interior turbulence of the human psyche, a classic tension that drives the thriller genre forward while remaining rooted in psychological realism.
From a storytelling standpoint, the trailer indicates a narrative built on consequence, suspicion, and the slow unspooling of a mystery that refuses to reveal all at once. The pacing appears deliberate, allowing tension to accumulate in quiet moments that feel authentic rather than contrived. This approach not only sustains suspense but also invites audiences to participate in the puzzle, testing their own intuition against what unfolds on screen.
In terms of audience takeaway, Wildwood seems poised to offer more than standard procedural thrills. The combination of a strong ensemble, a mood-forward design, and a plot that rewards attentive viewing suggests a film that lingers beyond the credits. For viewers who value performance-driven thrillers set against evocative landscapes, Wildwood promises a thoughtful, immersive experience with moments of serendipitous resonance.
As the 2026 release edge approaches, anticipation rests on how the film harmonizes its star power with its thematic ambitions. If the accompanying trailer is any indication, Wildwood will engage audiences through a restrained, purposeful storytelling voice, where every scene has a reason, every line a purpose, and the woods themselves become a silent interlocutor in a story about truth, trust, and the fragility of memory.
