Saros: How to Defeat Prophet (First Boss Guide)
Prophet is the first major hurdle in Saros, and this plant-like monstrosity is a brutal introduction to the game's "bullet ballet" combat. With three distinct health bars and a screen full of corrupted projectiles, defeating this beast requires a perfect blend of aggression and defensive timing. In this guide, we’ll walk you through every phase of the encounter, from destroying the side-orbs to exposing Prophet's glowing weak point, and how to navigate the arena's treacherous red grass.
Success against Prophet depends heavily on mastering your Soltari shield to absorb homing projectiles and knowing exactly when to dash through those expanding yellow ripples. We break down the boss's evolving stomp patterns and provide tips on managing the vine walls in the high-stakes final phase. Stick around after the breakdown for a full, unedited look at the Prophet boss fight in action to see these strategies put to the test on the planet Carcosa.

Saros marks the first major hurdle in your journey, a test of both skill and preparation. This guide provides a clear, practical approach to defeating Prophet, focusing on phase patterns, positioning, and reliable mechanics. Whether you’re new to the encounter or returning to refine your strategy, the following tips will help you move from learning the fight to executing it with confidence.
1) Understanding the fight structure - Prophet operates in a multi-phase sequence designed to pressure the team with a mix of mechanics and high-damage moments. - Observing the telegraphs is essential. Attack cues, shield indicators, and teleport windows all hint at what comes next, allowing you to pre-plan your roles. - Communication is key. Callouts for adds, teleportations, and ultimate ability windows keep the team aligned and reduce avoidable mistakes.
2) Team composition and roles - Frontline/ tank: Holds Prophet’s attention and mitigates front-loaded damage. Be mindful of taunt windows and swap mechanics when indicated. - DPS: Focus on safe, high-impact windows. Burst during guaranteed openings and back off during mechanic-heavy moments to avoid deaths. - Support/ healer: Prioritize keeping the team stable through incoming damage patterns. Manage cooldowns for major damage phases and be ready to reposition teammates who are knocked back or debuffed. - Utility/ crowd control: Assign a dedicated disruptor for certain add spawns or channeling mechanics. Timing is everything; misuse leads to overwhelming pressure on the team.
3) Phase-by-phase approach Phase 1: Opening sequence - Prophet initiates a series of telegraphed slashes and a targeted area attack. The safe approach is to stay near the edges and rotate through the outer rings to maintain distance without crossing paths with teammates. - Manage adds promptly if they spawn. Assign one player to quickly neutralize adds while others maintain fire on Prophet. - Use the opening window to establish baseline damage while health is in a comfortable range. Don’t overcommit resources here; preserve cooldowns for later phases.
Phase 2: Gladiator surge - The boss swaps to a more aggressive, melee-focused pattern. Maintain spacing to avoid stacking and maximize your ability to dodge. - Watch for a rising wind-up cue that signals a wide-area stomp. Move perpendicular to the projected line of attack to minimize risk. - When Prophet channels a brief shield, coordinate one or two interrupts or debuffs to shorten the shield duration. This is an ideal moment to push damage while the shield is down.
Phase 3: Ultimate window - A major damage phase that requires precise coordination. The team should spread to minimize overlapping damage and ensure a clean escape from any area denial effects. - Healers should preemptively cue their major heals and shields, prioritizing the tank who bears the brunt of the boss’s frontal attacks. - DPS should maximize output during a short, clearly signaled window. Any mis-timed cooldowns here can cascade into a wipe.
4) Positioning and movement tips - Maintain a consistent orbit around Prophet, using the arena’s safe zones to dodge telegraphed abilities without losing ground on the boss. - Avoid clusterings; spread out to mitigate chain damage or area denial effects. This makes resurrection or revival mechanics smoother if a teammate falls. - Learn the battlefield geometry. A simple mental map of corners, walls, and open lanes helps you survive long fights and reduce downtime between phases.
5) Mechanics to watch for and counters - Teleportation: React with a quick dodge and realign to a fresh arc around the boss. Do not chase the boss too closely after a teleport; reestablish safe distance first. - Area of effect (AOE) bursts: Break line-of-sight to avoid being caught in a single impact. Move in a pattern that keeps you reachable by healers while staying out of harm’s way. - Adds: Prioritize targets that threaten the team’s stability. A quick dispatch prevents a cascade of damage or crowd control effects from overwhelming your squad.
6) Gear and cooldown management - Balance offense and defense. Ensure your build is tuned for the fight’s expected damage profile: enough damage to reach the DPS checks, but enough durability to survive peak moments. - Synchronize ultimates and major cooldowns for the ultimate window. Coordination amplifies each ability’s impact and can be the deciding factor between victory and a hard reset. - If you have access to scaling or adaptive gear, consider tuning for your current difficulty level to maintain consistent performance as you progress.
7) Practice plan - Start with a slower tempo run to memorize telegraphs and phase transitions. Don’t rush to full damage; accuracy beats speed in early attempts. - Gradually increase the pace as you confirm each mechanic and how your team handles it. Use deathless clears as a learning metric to refine your timings. - Record and review. If possible, capture a run to analyze errors and identify predictable patterns you can exploit in future attempts.
8) Final tips for success - Callouts matter. Clear, concise communication reduces confusion and mistakes during high-pressure moments. - Keep your team’s rhythm. Synchronize buffs, debuffs, and healing windows to maximize efficiency during each phase. - Stay calm. The fight rewards patience and precise execution over reckless aggression.
With careful preparation, a disciplined approach, and strong teamwork, Prophet becomes a manageable hurdle rather than an insurmountable obstacle. Use this guide as a blueprint to craft your own strategy, adapt to your team’s strengths, and progress confidently through the start of your Saros journey.
