Do not adjust your television set. #WidowsBay premieres April 29 on Apple TV
From creator Katie Dippold and director Hiro Murai, Matthew Rhys stars in Widow’s Bay, a new original series coming April 29 to Apple TV. https://apple.co/_WidowsBay
“Widow’s Bay” is a quaint island town 40-miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no wifi, spotty cellular reception, and he must contend with superstitious old locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, Loftis succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again. “Widow’s Bay” blends genuine horror with an undercurrent of character-driven comedy. Rhys stars alongside an ensemble cast led by Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Caroll and Dale Dickey.
Hailing from Apple Studios, “Widow’s Bay” is created, showrun, executive produced and written by Dippold. Murai executive produces alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin and Rhys. Murai directs five episodes this season, in addition to directors Ti West, Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung.

Do not adjust your television set. #WidowsBay premieres April 29 on Apple TV
Television has always rewarded curiosity with revelation, and the upcoming premiere of #WidowsBay on Apple TV is no exception. Debuting on April 29, the series invites viewers into a meticulously crafted world where memory, motive, and consequence intersect at every turn. This is not merely a show to watch; it’s an invitation to engage with a story that refuses to sit still.
Set against a backdrop that blends intimate character study with high-stakes intrigue, #WidowsBay centers on a cast of thoughtfully drawn individuals whose lives become inextricably linked by a single, resonant event. The storytelling is precise, each scene engineered to peel back another layer of the narrative onion. Gently, the series builds tension without resorting to gimmicks, rewarding attentive viewing with a payoff that lingers long after the credits roll.
The production design stands as a character in its own right. From the carefully selected color palettes to the tactile textures of the environments, every frame is composed with an economy of means that amplifies mood and intention. The result is a viewing experience that feels cinematic in scope while retaining the intimacy of a well-observed drama.
Performance-wise, the ensemble delivers with nuance and restraint. The actors inhabit their roles with a discipline that honors the material, allowing subtext to do the heavy lifting. It’s in the quiet moments—glances, pauses, and when a door is left slightly ajar—that the story reveals its deepest truths.
For critics and casual viewers alike, the show promises a narrative cadence that rewards rewatching. There are threads to trace, motifs to notice, and questions that invite discussion without ever forcing a single interpretation. In an era where prestige television often aims for spectacle, #WidowsBay proves that power can reside in restraint and in the quiet, deliberate unfurling of a mystery.
Apple TV continues to position itself as a home for discerning storytelling, and #WidowsBay reinforces that commitment. The platform’s support for ambitious, character-driven drama shines through in every facet of the premiere—from writing and direction to sound design and pacing.
As April 29 approaches, audiences are encouraged to settle in with a sense of anticipation rather than expectation. Let the first episode unfold, then allow the series to reveal its metaphors, its surprises, and its quiet, unwavering confidence in the strength of its core questions: What is worth uncovering? And at what cost does the truth come to light? In the world of #WidowsBay, the journey is as compelling as the destination.
