Based on the blockbuster novel by New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch, and created by Crouch, who also serves as showrunner, “Dark Matter” is led by stars and executive producers Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton and Academy Award-winner Jennifer Connelly. The 10-episode second season premieres globally on Friday, August 28, 2026 on Apple TV with the first episode, followed by one new episode every Friday through October 30, 2026. Hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels and celebrating the 10th anniversary of its release this year, “Dark Matter” is a story about the road not taken. In season one, the series followed Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. Season two picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s (Connelly) growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, and their son Charlie (Fegley) starves for a sense of stability as their family is threatened.Elsewhere, Amanda (Braga) and Ryan (Simpson) join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. With Blair (Brugel) determined to stop him, Leighton (Okeniyi) relentlessly chases his grand vision of creating a perfect world. In addition to Edgerton and Connelly, the ensemble cast returning for season two includes Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and Amanda Brugel.

Dark Matter Season 2 – Official Trailer (Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly) | Comic Con 2026
The cinematic universe surrounding Dark Matter returns with renewed vigor as Comic-Con 2026 unveils the first official trailer for Season 2. Building on the momentum of its acclaimed first run, the new chapters promise a deeper exploration of the unknown, fueled by a roster that includes Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly in pivotal roles.
From the opening frames, the trailer establishes a pacing that is both taut and expansive. Luminous vistas of a fractured cosmos give way to intimate, character-driven scenes that illuminate the emotional stakes at the heart of the series. The visual language—sharp contrasts, careful use of shadow, and metallic textures—signals a shift toward a more mature, gravity-laden narrative where science, ethics, and personal history collide.
Joel Edgerton returns as a commander whose decisions ripple through a crew navigating contested space and contested loyalties. His performance anchors the trailer with a gravity that hints at moral complexity and strategic improvisation when the stakes escalate beyond conventional conflict. Jennifer Connelly, continuing to anchor the emotional core, steps into scenes of quiet resolve and analytical precision, guiding the team through mysteries that threaten both human identity and the fabric of reality itself.
The official trailer places a renewed emphasis on scientific inquiry as a storytelling engine. It hints at groundbreaking discoveries, a set of challenges that push the crew to their limits, and ethical dilemmas that question the cost of knowledge. The interplay between discovery and consequence becomes a through-line, suggesting that Season 2 will not only expand the universe but also deepen the philosophical questions that resonated with fans in the inaugural season.
Design and production value are standout elements in this trailer. The art direction leans into a tactile realism—cosmic stations with lived-in wear, practical effects blended with CGI, and a color palette that balances the cold hush of space with the warmth of human touch. The score, teased in brief, hints at a more orchestral, propulsive soundscape that aligns with the season’s heightened momentum without sacrificing intimate, character-driven moments.
Fans can expect a narrative arc that threads conspiracy, exploration, and personal reckoning. The trailer teases corridors of secret histories, factions with shifting loyalties, and a central mystery that promises to redefine the boundaries of the series’ universe. If Season 1 laid the groundwork for a universe governed by curiosity and risk, Season 2 appears set to test those boundaries with milestones that will likely become talking points in early reviews and fan discussions alike.
Comic-Con 2026 serves as an ideal launchpad for this release, offering an immersive context in which the show’s ambitions can be fully appreciated. The reception from attendees is likely to reflect a collective anticipation: a blend of awe at the scope of the cosmos and steady curiosity about the personal journeys that drive the crew forward.
In sum, the official trailer for Dark Matter Season 2 signals a confident, ambitious continuation. With Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly at the helm of a storied ensemble, the series appears poised to deliver a season that is intellectually provocative, visually immersive, and emotionally resonant. As the premiere date approaches, audiences can anticipate a narrative that deepens the mystery, expands the universe, and continues to challenge what it means to push beyond the known.
