According to industry analyst Circana (formerly the NPD Group) data for the U.S. market, November 2025 recorded the lowest video game hardware unit sales and lowest physical software dollar sales for a November month since 1995.

Overall, total spending across video games, hardware, accessories, and content in November 2025 was down 4% compared to November 2024, totaling $5.9 billion.

Key takeaways from the report include:

Hardware Unit Sales 1.6 million hardware units were sold in the U.S., the lowest total for a November since 1995 (when 1.4 million units were sold). Monthly hardware spending dropped 27% year-over-year to $695 million, the lowest November spending total since 2005.

Physical Software Sales Spending on physical games fell 14% year-over-year. Console Performance All major consoles saw declines in year-over-year sales for November. The PS5 was the best-selling console for the month in both units and dollars, though its sales were down over 40% compared to the previous year. Xbox Series sales were down 70%, and combined sales for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 were down over 10%.

Average Price The average price paid for a new piece of hardware reached an all-time November high of $439, up 11% from 2024, which is cited as a potential reason for the decline in units sold.

This downturn comes despite November typically being a major sales month due to Black Friday and holiday shopping.
