Control Resonant Review
Control Resonant reviewed by Michael Higham on PlayStation 5.
"Control Resonant may not be quite as deep as its RPG mechanics would lead you to believe and gets tedious the later hours, but the responsive stylish-action is foundationally sound, even when its sharp edge eventually dulls. And like most of Remedy’s games, its greatest strengths are the things built around that combat anyway. If anything, the fights are simply a slick vehicle for building up Dylan as a character and funneling you through one of the more inventive open worlds I’ve seen. Surprisingly, this is one of Remedy’s most conventional stories, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t dare to be bold at times. Control Resonant is a game bolstered by a compilation of powerful moments – from the finer details in its superb world design to the twists that elevate its characters beyond the paranormal happenings that dictate their lives. Collectively, it’s hard to escape Control Resonant’s gravitational pull."
Control Resonant Review

In the evolving landscape of audio engineering, Control Resonant stands out as a concept that bridges theoretical acoustics with practical design. This review delves into how resonance control shapes the listening experience, from studio monitors to consumer headphones, and why it matters for both engineers and end users.
What is Resonance and Why It Matters Resonance occurs when a system vibrates at certain frequencies with greater amplitude. In audio, uncontrolled resonance can color a signal, introducing muddiness, peaking, or uneven frequency response. Conversely, well-managed resonance can reinforce desirable characteristics, yielding a sense of depth, clarity, and musicality. The challenge lies in balancing these forces across a wide listening range and various acoustical environments.
Key Principles of Control Resonant Design 1. Material and Mechanical Damping: The choice of enclosure materials, internal bracing, and damping compounds directly affects how energy is absorbed or reflected. Effective damping reduces unwanted resonances without dulling transients. 2. Structural Stiffness vs. Compliance: A rigid, well-braced chassis minimizes modal issues, while strategic compliance in components can isolate vibrations that would otherwise transfer to the audio path. 3. Acoustic Treatments and Coupling: The interaction between drivers, enclosures, and rooms can amplify or suppress resonances. Proper mounting, isolation, and acoustic treatment help maintain a flat, reliable response. 4. Electrical Diltuation and Cabling: Impedance control, shielding, and cable choice influence how resonance manifests in the audio chain. Clean electrical interfaces prevent the amplification of spurious resonant modes. 5. DSP and Tuning: Digital signal processing enables precise shaping of the frequency response and phase characteristics to counter residual resonances. When applied judiciously, EQ curves and dynamic filters can achieve a balanced, transparent sound.
Evaluating Products Through the Lens of Control Resonance When assessing a product, consider how resonance management affects several core attributes: – Clarity: A system with well-controlled resonance preserves intelligibility in complex passages, avoiding excessive masking of harmonic content. – Impact and Authority: Properly tuned resonances can provide a sense of scale and bass authority without boominess or flabbiness. – Timbre and Truthfulness: The harmonic relationships reproduced should align with the source material, maintaining natural timbre across instruments and voices. -Spatiality: Resonance control influences imaging and soundstage stability. A system should present a coherent, anchored image rather than a veil of diffuse energy.
Practical Takeaways for Engineers and Enthusiasts – Start with measurement: Use frequency response and impulse response tests to identify problematic modes. Tools like MLS or sweep measurements illuminate how energy behaves across the spectrum. – Focus on critical nodes: Pay attention to cabinet joints, driver-to-cavity interfaces, and mounting points where energy can excite undesired modes. – Iterate with intent: Small changes in damping material, bracing, or alignment can yield disproportionate improvements in resonance behavior. – Balance is key: Over-damping can suppress musicality; under-damping can produce harshness. Aim for a linear, listener-centric response that remains engaging without fatigue.
Conclusion Control Resonant design is less about eliminating resonance and more about shaping it—harnessing constructive resonances while suppressing detrimental ones. In a field where subjective audition meets objective measurement, a disciplined approach to resonance management yields gear that not only measures well but also delivers enduring musical satisfaction. Whether refining a studio monitor, tuning a pair of reference headphones, or crafting room-friendly playback solutions, the deliberate control of resonant behavior is a foundational pillar of high-fidelity audio.
