Marathon: Which Shell Should You Pick?
Bungie is back with a bold new vision for the extraction shooter, and your survival on Tau Ceti IV depends entirely on the body you drop in with. In Marathon, players inhabit cybernetic "Shells," each boasting unique tactical abilities, prime powers, and specialized traits that define your role in a three-person squad (or as a lone wolf). From the heavy-hitting Destroyer to the loot-obsessed Thief and the mysterious, solo-focused Rook, we’re breaking down the entire launch roster to help you decide which rig fits your playstyle before you initiate your next extraction.
This comprehensive Marathon guide covers all seven starting Shells: Destroyer, Vandal, Recon, Assassin, Triage, Thief, and Rook. We dive into the specific mechanics of each, including the Destroyer’s Riot Barricade, the Vandal’s Disrupt Cannon, and the Triage’s life-saving Reboot+ ability. Whether you’re looking for the best Marathon character for solo play or the ideal team compositions for high-stakes loot runs, this gameplay breakdown has you covered. Stay tuned to IGN for more Marathon tips, class tier lists, and extraction shooter strategies as Bungie’s latest sci-fi epic evolves.
